ProsePlease Mission Statement by *ProsePlease:iconProsePlease:

When ProsePlease was first created by its original founders VampBabe, RebeccaA and WomanlyPanther, they envisioned a nurturing club for the much-neglected Prose writers of DeviantArt. On the rare occasion that DA features literature, more often than not, the limelight falls to poetry. This always left writers with the question, "What about Prose?". It was a question that ProsePlease endeavoured to address and three years into its running, we're still keen.

While there are many great Literature clubs on DA, what is unique about ProsePlease is our sense of community. We have always welcomed Prose writers of all sorts - from young developing writers, dallying hobbyists, to experienced passionate Old Hands. It is still the goal of ProsePlease to create a nurturing, creative atmosphere to bring prose authors together in the sharing, discussion, and improvement of their work.

While ProsePlease itself is a dedicated Prose club, we also recognise the wider world of literature. Thus, we take great care to always promote the activities of all DeviantArt and non-DA literature clubs (including poetry) and any literature project which might be of interest to our members & guests. By maintaining a fine balance between focusing on prose and the wider Literature community, we can truly provide a conducive environment for DA developing prose writers.

Sharing

Favourites is a monthly showcase, seeking to present high-quality writing from members and non-members of deviantART. All works are added to the club's favourite as a tribute to the great writers of DA.

Muse's Registry is a ProsePlease community noticeboard for ongoing or unfinished works that may require feedback or exchange. We also list any literature-related projects that may be in need of bodies or collaborative efforts.

Discussion

Q&A (Questions & Answers) is a section designed to bring the writer and their fans closer. This online forum/article interview provides an opportunity to learn from another's technique, style & success. All Q&A articles are also available as News Articles.

#ProsePlease Chatroom can be found on !dAmn as a sanctuary for club members and guests. In order to utilise this facility, we have only one request - that you have a genuine interest in the discussion of prose.

Ink Sessions are also held regularly in our very own #InkSession Chatroom to provide online chat-workshops to encourage social and intellectual exchange between writers.

Improvement

Community Critics is a fortnightly section dedicated to offering members a means of critique and feedback. Members can seek an honest assessment of their writing's strengths and weakness, from other members of the club. The best critique of each fortnight is both showcased and given a unique opportunity to feature one of their own prose for critique.

ProsePrompts is another monthly section specifically designed to encourage innovative and stimulating writing. The best prompt of each month also has the honour of being featured on the main journal of ProsePlease.

ProseWriter's Toolkit began as a simply resource page but has since grown into a handy collection of links. It covers anywhere from the beginning of the writing journey, to troubleshooting, and stages of refinement.

In conclusion, it is through the upkeep and continuation of these online facilities, we hope to contribute to the literature community of DeviantArt and assist every writer's personal project. May you learn from your time in ProsePlease and enjoy the art of writing.

What an odd mission statement. There are several things that trouble me.

First of all, why a random club member instead of a skilled one? I, for one, would rather read a skilled writer's best prose than a mediocre or horrible writer's best prose. It's easy to find mediocre or horrible stuff on dA, I do it every day.

Second of all, prose is not a ware to be bought and sold on the free market, and competition is not the best way to find out what prose is 'best'. Danielle Steele is not a better writer than Paul Auster, even though she sells many more books.

Anyway, comps are neat, of course. I'm just not sure I agree with your reasons for them ;)

A while back, you pointed out something in our mission statement, about Featuring random club members rather than skilled ones. As the co-ordinator for that section, I do in fact select prose worthy of sharing, not just a random name so I'll have a chat with the founder, =Triseena and we'll amend that in the mission statement. Thanks for pointing that out!

Nothing lasts forever. Its very emptiness is equalled by its potential.

Well, the problem is noone knows what prose IS.
